You are more than a diagnosis
A place to be heard
Borderline personality disorder can involve difficulty regulating emotions, an uncertain sense of self, and challenges in relationships. Experiences vary, and a diagnosis does not describe everything about who you are.
Therapy offers space to explore what feels difficult without judgment. We can discuss recurring patterns, the situations that bring up intense feelings, and what you would like to experience differently in daily life.
Building practical skills
Support shaped around your needs
I draw on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and other approaches based on your needs. Our individual work may include noticing emotions, practicing ways to tolerate distress, and communicating needs and boundaries.
We can explore what happens before a difficult interaction, identify options for responding, and practice skills you want to use outside sessions. Your priorities guide the pace and focus of therapy.
Finding the right support
I work with adults and Veterans, and provide individual therapy for adolescents ages 12 and up. For a teen, we can discuss emotional and relationship concerns and what support is appropriate for their age and needs.
I am Josh Montoya, M.A., LPCC, a therapist and Veteran. Whether you have a BPD diagnosis or questions about your experiences, a consultation gives us a place to discuss your goals and whether my services are a good fit.

FAQs
How can DBT help?
DBT teaches skills involving mindfulness, managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, and relationships. I draw on DBT in individual therapy based on your needs. During a consultation, we can discuss the support you are seeking and whether individual therapy or a more comprehensive program is appropriate. Read more about BPD treatment from the National Institute of Mental Health.
Do I need a diagnosis to reach out?
No. You can begin by discussing the concerns that led you to seek support. Similar experiences can have different causes, so a webpage cannot determine a diagnosis. I offer diagnostic assessments for individual clients, and we can discuss assessment and therapy options during your consultation.
